Maurice was a very clever man and although he left school to become an apprentice electrician, he decided that he would study at Night School to get extra qualifications and go to university to study Electrical Engineering,which he duly did. Her always said that he had a fantastic time at Leeds and even represented the universityat the sport of fencing. He was very proud of this achievement,having come from a working class family,and at a time when only a small minority of people went to university.
